"Marcus DJ'd our wedding at Trinity Centre and smashed it out of the park. Great tunes and transitions keeping a crowd with varied music taste interested. Can't recommend him enough."
Wedding DJ · Bristol
Bristol Born. Twenty Years In.
Speaker Box is Bristol. Raised on the Wild Bunch, resident at Dojo's, playing weddings across the city for nearly twenty years. Live turntable mixing for couples who actually love music.
More house party
than wedding DJ.
Most wedding DJs describe themselves as "Bristol-based" because that's where their van is parked. Marcus grew up here. He learned to DJ to cassettes from The Wild Bunch — the crew that became Massive Attack. He ran Hip Hop, Funk and Soul nights at Dojo's for years. Bristol's music heritage isn't a marketing line. It's the reason Speaker Box exists.
Castle or the back room of a pub. 400 guests or 40. Proper music, mixed live, the way a good mate would DJ if they happened to be twenty years into a Bristol club career. No MC routine. No Macarena. No pre-loaded set and hope for the best.
The friend-who-DJs you wish you had. Who happens to be a top Bristol club DJ.
"Friends were Shazamming his brilliant tune choices throughout the night — testament to his impeccable taste in music."
We're beyond grateful to Marcus, whose exceptional DJ skills truly elevated our special wedding day at The Mount Without. His seamless mixing and expert track selection had our guests entertained, with many commenting on how perfectly the music matched the event's vibe.
About Marcus
Not a playlist. Not an algorithm. Twenty years learning how to shape a room.
Speaker Box is Marcus Lovell, a Bristol club DJ who spent years as a weekly resident at Dojo's, running Hip Hop, Funk and Soul nights that became some of the city's most celebrated. He's shared stages with Jazzie B, Daddy G from Massive Attack, and Jody Wisternoff from Way Out West. He plays weddings through the Wedding Jam agency alongside DJ Yoda and Graeme Park.
That background shapes everything. The way tracks flow into each other. The way energy builds across an evening. The way a room that was sitting down ends up on its feet without anyone being told to dance.
If the music at your wedding actually matters to you, you're in the right place.
Bristol Venues
Venues I Know Well
The Mount Without — a deconsecrated church on St Michael's Hill. One of my favourite rooms in the city. Venue page →
Goldney Hall — Georgian house in Clifton. The grotto, the walled gardens, a room that photographs beautifully and dances even better.
Ashton Court Mansion — grand, versatile, well set up for a proper dancefloor.
Arnos Vale Cemetery — one of the most atmospheric venues in the country. Works brilliantly for couples who want something that isn't a marquee.
Berwick Lodge — tucked just north of the city. Intimate, elegant, good for smaller parties.
Coombe Lodge, Blagdon — a short drive south. Big space, fills a dancefloor quickly.
If your venue isn't on the list, it doesn't matter — I'll play anywhere in and around Bristol.
The Process
How It Works
Get in Touch
Check your date, have a no-obligation chat over Zoom or in person. No hard sell — just a conversation to see if we're a good fit.
Plan Your Music
Before the wedding, we go through what you want the night to feel like. A handful of must-plays, artists to lean into, anything you'd rather not hear. A proper conversation, not a tick-box form.
Your Night
Marcus arrives from 5pm. Set up takes around 90 minutes, then the music is in his hands. He reads the room, responds to the energy, and builds a night that feels like yours.
What Bristol Couples Say
"He kept the energy high and the dance floor full — it was never empty. His lighting setup added a fantastic atmosphere to the Crypt. Highly recommend."
"This man is THE best choice when it comes to DJ'ing. I personally, even as the bride, didn't leave the dance floor once he started. Book him — you WILL not be disappointed."
