Somerset has some of the best wedding venues in the country, rolling countryside, converted barns, manor houses, and the kind of settings that deserve music to match.
I’m Marcus, the DJ behind Speaker Box. I’m based in Bristol and I regularly travel across Somerset for weddings and events. The county is well within my standard coverage area, and I’ve played everything from intimate barn weddings near Frome to larger celebrations in the Mendips and beyond.
Why Speaker Box for a Somerset Wedding
Most Somerset wedding venues have character. They’re barns with stone walls, country houses with oak-panelled rooms, marquees on private estates. They deserve a DJ who matches that energy, not a mobile disco with a light-up booth and a microphone.
I DJ on Technics turntables with a library of over 20,000 tracks. Soul, Funk, Hip Hop, Rare Groove, R&B, and everything else that keeps a dancefloor moving. Every set is live mixed and every playlist is personally curated with the couple beforehand.
The lighting runs through Soundswitch, programmed track by track, synced to the music, designed to complement the venue rather than overwhelm it. No generic disco lights. Just atmosphere that responds to the music.
Somerset Venues I Cover
I play at venues across the county. A few that are popular with couples who’ve booked me or enquired:
- Babington House, the Soho House country estate near Frome. Laidback luxury, no curfew, and the kind of crowd that knows good music when they hear it.
- Orchardleigh Estate, a Victorian mansion on 500 acres near Frome, with its own island church reached by footbridge. Grand in scale without being stuffy.
- Coombe Lodge, Blagdon, set in the Mendip Hills with views over Blagdon Lake. The rooms work well for music and the setting speaks for itself.
- Pennard House, a Georgian manor in 80 acres of apple orchards near Shepton Mallet. Family-run, intimate, and full of character.
- Brympton House, a Grade I listed manor near Yeovil dating back to the 13th century. Country Life once called it the most beautiful house in England.
- St Audries Park, a Gothic manor in the Quantock Hills with sea views across the Bristol Channel. The Orangery and Great Hall are both impressive spaces.
- Clevedon Hall, a Victorian mansion with 25 bedrooms, walking distance from Clevedon Pier. Covers the north Somerset coast nicely.
Whatever the venue, I’m happy to visit beforehand to check the space, plan the setup, and make sure the sound works for the room.
The Practical Bits
Bristol to most Somerset venues is well within the 50-mile round trip included in all Speaker Box packages, so there’s no travel surcharge for the majority of the county. For venues further afield, deeper into West Somerset or towards the Devon border, it’s 50p per mile beyond the included distance.
I arrive from 5pm, setup takes around 90 minutes, and I can cover the full evening or the whole day if you need ceremony and daytime music as well.
