Why Speaker Box

Four things, done properly. Together, they're why couples walk away saying it was the best dancefloor they've ever been on.

01

The DJ

Twenty years of residencies. Not weddings. Club nights. Dojo's on Park Street in Bristol. Hip Hop, Funk, Soul and R&B, every week, reading real dancefloors in real time.

That's the foundation. The instinct for what a room needs, when to push it, when to let it breathe. That comes from years of doing it, not a weekend course.

I mix live on Technics turntables with a Pioneer DJM-S11 running Serato DJ Pro. Every transition is a decision made in the moment. The set flows. Energy builds deliberately. It sounds the way music sounds when someone who knows what they're doing is behind the decks.

I make my own edits and mashups. Your night won't sound like someone else's wedding or a playlist on shuffle. It sounds like something built for you, played by someone who's been doing this since 2006.

02

The Music

Before every wedding, we have a proper conversation about your night. Not a form. Not a database of thousands of songs to tick through. A conversation: what moves you, what you never want to hear again, what the room should feel like at 11pm.

A dozen must-plays is genuinely more useful than two hundred. A must-play list tells me which tracks mean something. A Spotify dump of two hundred tells me almost nothing, because I have no way of knowing which three of those tracks matter and which one-hundred-and-ninety-seven you'd barely notice.

The do-not-play list works the same way. Short is useful. Very long starts to cause problems, because some of those tracks are transitional tools I'd use to bridge genres or maintain energy through a difficult moment. When they're off the table, the set gets more rigid than either of us wants.

The couples who've had the best nights tell me what matters, then trust me with the rest. That's what gets you a better dancefloor.

03

The Sound

The RCF system: NX932-A tops with 15AX subwoofers. The kind of rig you'd find at a serious club night, not a mobile disco.

It takes time to set up properly, and I take that time. The subwoofers don't go where they look best. They go where they sound best, positioned for the room, not for symmetry. The difference between a system that's been placed and one that's been tuned to a space is something your guests will feel before they even register it consciously.

Clean, powerful, detailed audio. The kind of bass you feel as well as hear. Effortless at any volume because there's headroom to spare.

Whether you're in a marquee, a barn, a converted church, or a city centre venue, it fills the room the right way.

04

The Lighting

This is where most DJs stop at adequate. This is not adequate.

Front of booth

8 Astera AX1 pixel tubes deliver the eye candy. Moving, colour-shifting light that makes the front of the room look like a concert, not a function. Two Ape Labs Marvel Washes stand behind the booth and throw controlled, layered colour up to the ceiling.

The venue

14 Ape Labs Maxi 2 uplighters wash the walls and ceiling with colour. The whole room becomes part of the experience, not just the dancefloor.

Everything is wireless. Everything is battery-powered. Everything is programmed track by track before the night starts using Soundswitch, so the lighting responds to the music the way it was designed to, rather than running on a timer and hoping for the best.

Modern. Colour balanced. Considered from every angle.

If you want anything more than this, you need a production company as well as a DJ.
